The rock group Chickenfoot is working on the band's second album. Fans of the group's first album are looking forward to the second offering.

Supergroup Chickenfoot – composed of Joe Satriani, Chad Smith, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar – is working on its second rock album, expected out later this year. Earlier in June, the band was reported to be finishing up the album (according to www.chickenfoot.us, accessed June 17). The band’s name is unusual enough, but the members of Chickenfoot are – tongue planted in cheek – planning on calling the album Chickenfoot IV (Four). Why? Just for the fun of it, said lead singer Hagar. “That’s how silly we are. It’s the working title but I guarantee it’ll stick,” Hagar said in an interview with the Toronto Sun newspaper that was posted on the Van Halen News Desk (www.vhnd.com, accessed June 17).

Looking at the New Album

Hagar isn’t the only one having fun with the new album. “Been in the studio with Sammy, Chad and Joe finishing up the recording on the new Chickenfoot CD and having a blast!” exclaimed bassist Anthony. As for guitarist Satriani, he said: “Chickenfoot’s second album is almost finished, and we’re hoping to mix sometime in June. It is heavier, and better than the first one, and I can’t wait to get it out there!” Considering the band’s self-titled first album quickly went gold in both Canada and the U.S., Satriani’s assertion of the worth of the second entry should come as good news to Chickenfoot fans.

The song titles on the coming CD, Hagar said, include No Change, Who’s Next, Astral Years, and I Ain’t Got You, I Got the Two by Blues. “It’s not a comical record, but we’re having so much fun, it will make you laugh. That’s how much fun we have when we play,” Hagar said.

The aim is to try to get the album out before the fall, Hagar said. “We’re not looking to do a tour this summer or anything like that. We’re going to wait until the album comes out and see if Chad’s gonna be available,” he continued, referring to Smith’s drumming commitments with his other band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

As for Chickenfoot, “we’re got stuff planned that we never could have dreamed about when we first got together. We’re talkin’ heavier than ever, bluesier, more emotional – I get goosebumps just thinking about it,” Hagar said in an interview posted on www.musicradar.com and accessed June 17.

Looking at the Band Members

Hagar and Anthony are former members of Van Halen, with Anthony being the founding bassist for that band. The two played together frequently after leaving Van Halen, both with Hagar’s Wabos band and as The Other Half. Hagar is best known to some for his work back in the 1970s as the lead singer for Montrose. Satriani dedicated his life to the guitar in 1970, on the same day guitar legend Jimi Hendrix died, and rose to prominence with his 1987 album Surfing with the Alien. And Smith has been with the Chili Peppers since the late 1980s.
